Tell us a little bit about your truck. F250, F350, Gas or diesel what motor do you have?
I may be old school, but I do believe the first oil change is important with 5k minimum to manufactures recommendations.. purely for letting the valve train time to seat properly, including rings etc ( break in period of truck )
After that change your oil everyday if you want. Its your truck
More info on engine would help.
There is no special break in additive in the factory fill from Ford in any model.
Motorcraft oil is a synthetic blend across the board, unless you buy the specifically marked full synthetic version. It is currently a Conoco-Phillips product.
That does not mean that a dealer is going to use MC oil. In fact, more likely they have a bulk tank filled with the cheapest stuff available from their supplier that meets the spec. My local dealer has a Castrol product. You pay more for jugs of MC from parts if you want it.
Early change? Sure why not. There is some extra wear going on initially that stabilizes pretty quickly, and no harm in getting the extra metals and silicon from gasket sealers out of the engine. Absolutely necessary? Nope. Changing early is not going to make your 150,000 mile engine into a 200,000 mile one. You'll be the only one feeling better about it.
If you have a gas burner, any XW20 that meets the spec will be fine. Every last one has to be a syn-blend of sorts to meet the cold spec. The bottle may not be marketed as Syn-Blend, but it will be inside, unless specifically marked "full synthetic"
If your engine calls for XW30, there is a reason for that. Again, find an oil that meets the spec called out in the manual.
Diesel? I have not traveled anywhere that does not have a bio blend of some kind, anywhere from 2 to 11%. Ford calls for a 5w40 or 15w40 with a bio blend, so pick one of those based on the coldest temperature you'll see, verify it's on the approved list. and go. Any of the majors, (and several private labels) will work.
The "best" oil is one that provides a return on investment over your change interval. Short intervals do not need $30 a gallon synthetic. Insane cold like Canada or Alaska probably do.
