Ideas?

I have a 1955 Ford f100 with a floor 3 speed shifter. I also have a bench seat. My Indy shifter kind of hits the bench in first gear and third. Anyone ever extend or rework this shifter?
thanks
jerry

Sorry no help for a solution. That was a very common problem back in the day. There were plenty of hack job shifter “fix’s” when you couldn’t buy ones that worked. I even recall some folks notching their benches.

I don’t know what style Indy shifter you have but some of them the handle could be flipped so the curve went towards the dash. That is if yours is a curved style

This one can be flipped to go either way

I had the same issue and ended up cutting and welding mine into a better position.

I ground down top and bottom at an angle and cranked up the heat on the welder so it would penetrate. I don’t have a final pic but can take one.

I have my shifter extended about 3 inches taller. In first and third gear my shifter comes pretty close to the bench seat. But I am thinking of making it taller or just live with the hunched over look.
thanks

I have the long Gennie shifter in my 52. It hits the dash and the seat. lol I did take the fuel tank out of the cab a while back and I am hoping if I get the seat back I can slide the shifter housing back and clear both. Then again I am looking for bucket seats that will do the same thing.
