My 2000 expy with a 4.6 is using oil. On a 250 mile highway drive it will drop about a third of a quart. It runs fine, sounds fine, and the garage floor isn't covered in oil. I haven't noticed any smoke from the exhaust either. Any ideas on whats going on.
How many miles on your vehicle? What speeds do you drive? Are you towing? What weight oil do you use?
If your answers are: less than 200K miles, not towing, legal speeds and factory recommended 5w30 oil is used, replace your pcv valve and see it that doesn't improve the oil consumption. If your crankcase, valve covers can't breath properly pressure will build up and create more blow by.
I only have 44000 miles. 5w30 is the only oil I use and its changed every 4000 miles. After a trip from CA to TX I noticed it starting to use oil. Is the PCV valve an easy change?
