I have two F-250 trucks... a 2008 Diesel Crew Cab long bed and a 2011 gas Super Cab long bed. Both have the 10,000 pound GVWR package. My 2008 has 5 leaves in the pack and my 2011 only has 3, The 2011 seems to have a stiffer/bouncier ride and I'm working on solutions when I noticed the spring differences. Is the different pack in the 2008 due to the Diesel and longer frame?
Since '99 Ford has a history of offering a myriad of spring codes and mixing and matching front and rear capacities using the tried and true "Wheel of Fortune" technique.
I did a little searching and it's much easier to find threads on front codes.....I did find this one for rear but it seemed to pertain to 2004 MY. However I believe the code designation stays consistent '99-16 -- the issue would be if additional codes were added after '04 that aren't listed here https://www.powerstrokenation.com/th...-codes.433969/
1999-2008 rear springs are the same length. They got longer rear leafs in 2008 and I believe around 2010-2012+ either got even longer rear leafs or they redesigned them for better ride quality. After 2004 the spring codes were picked based off vehicle options and Ford stopped publishing the spring codes so it's very difficult to figure out what's what's. I grabbed some LL code rear springs from a 2011 f350 FX4 with the tow and camper packages, they are 4 or 5 leaves +over loads. They seem to be the heaviest rear springs for those years.

This makes sense, thank you!
And yeah my '11 F350 FX4 has the best spring pack in the rear of any truck I've ever owned. Has a nice ***-high rake unloaded and its nearly impossible to get it to squat much in the rear.....definitely none of that headlights-pointing-in-the-sky stuff.
I'm guessing the extra weight from the diesel and CC help to soften the ride. Shocks and tire pressure make a big difference. The rear tires don't need to be at full pressure if your unloaded. Look up how to chalk a tire, it's really easy, and play with the pressure. I used to keep a 12v portable air pump in the truck incase I needed to pump them up.
What I'm really wondering is which spring is more complaint? I'm going to be selling the 2008 and I wouldn't be against swapping the springs if I could gain a better ride.
