Looking for some direction. My grandpa bought this truck brand new in 77. Im trying to get her going again to use to pull a car trailer with my s10 i built to the track every now and then and to just cruise around. Its a 2wd straight 6 c4 trans i beleive( its an auto unfortunately) and 410 gears. Will it handle it? What should i do to help make her life a little easier when towing. New to the in line 6 stuff so any help is appreciated.
85e150- it last ran in 99. And all was well. I'm going to go through all the suspension, brakes, fuel system, etc.... seen that offenhauser makes a intake for a 4 bbl, so thought that a header, dual exhaust, upgraded distributor/ coil and a trans cooler would help. Thoughts? Maybe a cam? Not looking to break land speed records just wanted to bring her back to life and figured she would be alot cooler pulling the race car than my suburban. Plus I remember riding in it as a kid and would mean alot to my old man to see it going again, plan on surprising him since he doesn't know what I've got in the works.
Welcome to FTE, great looking truck! Yes, Offy intake, I've had good results with the Holley 390 cfm on my sixes with the Offy, although summit has a nice 500cfm I put on my 77 w/351M, very happy with it. I had Heddman dual outlet headers on my 66 F250 and loved them, I just did HEI on my 351M also, so much easier. I towed a lot with my 66 F250 but it had the NP435 and 4.10's, never towed with a six and an auto. Love the turbine wheels too.
Then 300 straight six makes excellent torque and with 4.10 gears it will tow just fine. Make sure the brakes are in good shape, and an auxiliary transmission cooler is never a bad idea.

Beautiful truck by the way.
about those brakes lol. It has the master cylinder but no brake booster... can I add a brake booster to help it. I don't remember if it has disks up front or not its been so long since I've looked. Definitely will add a trans cooler, I have a spare one I plan to use.
X2 on those color-coordinated turbine mags! They look as cool as can be. I'd maybe look at some pinstriping for the body, to set those wheels off.
That truck should tow your race rig with no problem, though a 4 speed might be a better transmission for that. If it is a C4, then that's probably your weakest link, but I think I'd feel pretty safe with an auxiliary trans fluid cooler.
Is your rear axle a 9 inch? I think I've read about some F One Hundos coming with something other than a nine inch.

I'm sure you can add a booster, but I've never done one myself. It should be pretty straight forward.

If you add power brakes, you want to get it all from one truck, since there are a few different versions of the various parts used, and it can be easy to piece together the wrong combination of parts. I know there are a couple or few different pedals, at least. And I believe there are different boosters as well. I think there are some different pushrods, and there might even be a couple of different pedal supports.
Other posters here know those particulars better than me, but it's something to keep in mind.
