I have had mine do that before and it was because of the strap from the fuel cap was pushing against the door, I just open up the door and spin the strap around the fuel cap.

Thanks for the idea. Tried moving the strap to different positions around the cap, didn't help.
Take the strap off, on mine I added a locking fuel cap and this was causing hte issue. Its also possible the detent that holds closed is weak. DEALER fix perhaps.

On the door hinge arm there appears to be a small hook but can't see anything it would attach to.
The hook is for the fuel cap strap to hang over when you remove the fuel cap to fuel the truck. Keeps fuel tank cap from hanging down and hitting the side of the bed. No help on the door not shutting, mine seems to almost have a "spring" type closure that when the fuel door gets close to closing it closes quickly without having to keep my hand on it.

The spring action is what I remember as well. I may have to get under the bed to see what's going on.

Fuel door won't stay closed. Any idea on how to fix this?

Had the same thing on my 2017. Drove me nuts. Dealer replaced the fuel door assembly under warranty. The piece that swings out that the body piece hooks onto was warped. That fixed my problem.
I’d guess it’s a 2021 diesel. They changed the fuel cap and the tether just doesn’t move freely enough to get out of its own way. Horrible design compared to my 17.
