I’d guess it’s a 2021 diesel. They changed the fuel cap and the tether just doesn’t move freely enough to get out of its own way. Horrible design compared to my 17.
Had the same thing on my 2017. Drove me nuts. Dealer replaced the fuel door assembly under warranty. The piece that swings out that the body piece hooks onto was warped. That fixed my problem.
My dealer replaced mine as well...covered by the 3/36 warranty, somewhere around 2/24.
My door is not closing also. It actually appears that the outer plastic piece is warped. I will have it in for service this week and it is on the list for them to look at. I'll let you know what I find out.

When I had mine warrantied on my 2017, I thought it was the outer body piece warped too, even laid a square on it and it was warped. Once they replaced the inner assembly, the outer piece was straight again.

Funny you should mention that, I was looking at the door again this morning and it looked warped. Please do let us know what you find out.
The door on my 19 used to not shut tight, I read a few posts a year or so ago about it. Mine actually started to close tight after a while, not sure why. Just my 2c.
The same thing happened on my 2019 from day 1. Dealer replaced closing mechanism under warranty. The same door was used so paint match wasn’t an issue.
This used to happen on my F-150 on a regular basis. From the looks of your picture of the backside it looks like a similar mechanism. On the F-150s the plastic hinge pin for the door is indexed and would back out of the hole. The fix was removing the whole assembly and reinstalling the hinge pin in the correct orientation and reinstalling the spring. Lots of YouTube videos on the subject. Once you figured out how everything came apart and went together it was a 15 minute fix.
I wish they had a feature you could just lock it, or it was locked when you lock the vehicle. But I heard that kind of technology was high tech features from the future. I'm mean what's to make some michieve maker or nor do wells from just diumpingt anything down y our tank. srr, not felling like speel check right ether.
