I'm not sure if the writer is an engineer or not, but he makes a lot of great observations with some interesting data points from Ford. The most surprising thing for me was not suspension related at all… Hybrids have long used "brake-by-wire" systems instead of the traditional vacuum-actuated booster because they need to merge regenerative braking with the standard friction brakes. Apparently all F150s use brake-by-wire instead of two separate systems. It's great that a vacuum leak won't jeopardize your braking power, but the systems used on older hybrids are expen$ive to replace when they fail. It's a rare thing in those applications though, so I'd hope Ford's supplier builds them well.
Thanks, Cool article.
I sold a Super Duty Yesterday and looked at a 21 150 Lariat today. It is listed with the "Max Tow Package", I will likely return and buy it tomorrow but now I am curious to see the rear leaf springs.

Depends on how the truck was optioned. The Max Tow Package is a stand alone package that requires other key elements to be selected for actual spring and frame upgrades. It has been like this since 2015and per the 21 order guide it still continues. The truck has to be option with 20" wheels and that is the trigger on the spring upgrades.

It says "multi-leaf" on the max tow. Interesting though the Lariat that I am looking at has 18s. Max Tow is a listed option and charge on the window sticker.
(However, all that changes if you order the max towing or increased payload options. Those variants revert to a multi-leaf pack with a steel helper.)

Yeah I dug through the order site looking for the HDPP, I could only get that to come up as an option on the 8' bed. If I read the information correctly said HDPP is only available on XL and XLT and with 18" wheels.
Tough little trucks. Coming from a 18 6.2 Super Duty the suspension and power is more capable with the 150 than what I had with the SD.
My understanding is that with max tow regardless of 18 or 20 or the rare hdpp, u will not get the fancy new leaf in that article. But I've been wrong before. And married for years.... 😆

2021 F150 Lariat Max Tow Package leaf spring on my new truck.
I loved it enough to commit to it. They're writing it up now, I left and will circle back to pick it up tomorrow or something. Thanks though, I am thoroughly impressed with the interior and power of the 3.5 eb.
