Lowering temps, cold air, intercoolers ???

I was thinking of trying to lower my eot temps.
I only have a problem on hot summer days, fully loaded climbing mountain passes.
I have a afe stage 2 intake I feel that it is sucking to much hot air at the slower speeds causing higher etgs and then high eot.
I feel like once the fan kicks in the temps don’t come down much as the fan is disposing the hot air directly into the afe intake area.
Does anyone think that a sealed s&b or banks style intake would yield some improvements??
And what about upgrading the intercooler?? Anyone have any experience with these mods under extreme conditions???

What are your ECTs under these conditions? Generally EOT follows ECT very closely as the oil cooler is a coolant-oil exchanger. If you ECT is low but your EOT is high then you've probably got a plugged oil cooler. Very common problem. I tow a lot in the hot summer and it's not uncommon on the long pulls for my ECT to hit 220F (point where the fan hits high speed) with a corresponding 235F EOT.

Your air intake pulling hot air would have more affect on the EGTs. If you aren't running serious horsepower the stock filter setup is by far the best and provides the highest level of filtration. The general consensus seems to be it's good for up to 500hp.

My eot and ect follow each other pretty closely, you right that the high egt, cause the oil and coolant to heat up, i think a better intake that can’t suck any hot air from under the hood is the way to go. Unfortunately I don’t have the stock intake. I think the open filter design of the afe suffers at low speed heavy load environment. I’m not looking for more power just lower egt. Could a ebp sensor cause over fuel and higher egts?
I’m running an edge cts2, 4” mbrp, mishimoto radiator, new head gaskets head studs,

I don't believe the EBP is used for much in regards to fuelling, but I would defer to others more knowledgeable. I know it is used for VGT trim, but I think that's about it.

You can get the filter for under $50 from dieselfiltersonline.com.

I looked at Autonation White Bear Lake parts and I don't see them listing the filter adapter pieces but I assume you could get them for a fairly low cost.

If you come up with something, let me know. I'd like mine to run cooler when towing as well. Not unusual for me to see sustained 215 ECT/225 EOT just towing down flat highways. I have the 7.3 fan clutch setup, which definitely moves more air that the stock one, but I'm also wondering if the increased drag no the engine to run it isn't canceling out any benefits?

All the "extra" hot air is actually cooler than you think - I don't think that intake is the problem (diesels can handle loads of "extra" air), rather it's a combination of other things -

(1) Reliance on an electronic fan vice that mechanical 7.3L Byrd.Dog recommended
(2) Underlying problem is high exhaust gas temps (EGT) -- want to drive those lower
(3) That tuner (I'm not a fan) is also a contributing factor, the tune could well be providing TOO MUCH FUEL which drives EGTs (in spite of the fact you've improved CFMs into the engine)
(4) Overall engine efficiency -- when is the last time you back flushed?
(5) Oil type and additives
(6) Coolant type, radiator condition
(7) Overall airflow thru the engine bay -- believe it or not ANGLE OF ATTACK (while towing or through suspension geometry mods, aka LIFT KITS) really screws stuff up -- ask any engineer using Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software modeling for air flow analysis and she/he will show you the problems.

Thanks F350 1990 for the input.
I think that airflow through the grill could be a factor as I have some 9” spot lights mounted on a light bar and had wondered if they would have an effect on the air flow to the engine. (Of course they do but how much).
I first questioned this problem when driving my 2002 mazda 2.5 turbo diesel and only on long slight inclines it would over heat. I installed etg probe and noticed slowly climbing etgs temps on those long 65mph climbs to super high numbers on a pretty much stock setup. These engines are notorious for head problems I think I know why now.
The intercooler on these are tiny smaller than a cereal box. I feel that it simply gets over heated and cannot cool the air anymore.
I started to wonder if that was a contributing factor in the 6.0.
