Camshaft upgrade
It is time for me to tackle the timing, cam phasers, etc. Thought crossed out my mind to change out the Cams while I was in there for a little more power and a little thump. Got a bit over 200k on my 5.4L.
Anyone have ideas on what to get, or if I should even do it?

I talked with my mechanic about up grading the camshaft while he was in there already replacing the ticking cam phaser's.
He said you will lose what you gain because you will have to run phaser lock outs and you can not tune around it.

I think if you look at the hp/torque ratings of the same liter displacement engines of the past and the new you will find the new engines have been factory tuned far more powerful than any of it's predecessors. These engines are pretty well maxed out for power and mileage in a 4 season climate. I'm sure performance shops would love to sell you whatever your pocket book can handle but remember, it's all done at the sacrifice of mileage and seasonal drive-ability issues. When my 05 mustang gt made 300hp and my newer 17 mustang gt made 435hp going from 4.6l to 5.0l, I went thanks Ford.
