7.3 gas engine swap
I have been wondering about doing a timung job. But feel quite intimidated by the posts others have put up. Plus it seems we are sort of fighting with a difficult engine to start with.
I bought the truck to last. As ive been told lots about Fords are good. Most guys i know swear by ford trucks.I have a couple of other earlier ford trucks. So thought with the budget i had i had done the right thing.
while i was thinking about the timing and the work needed to do it. Or maybe get a reman. Ok. So a reman is gunna be good for 100k or more. I dont drive mad. But do like power when its needed for either easier towing or overtaking. Been having a little read up. It seems the 2019 7.3 gas engine will bolt uo to our gearbox pattern. Yhey reckon its pretty bulletproof and more basic engine to work on.
This vould possibly be a completely mad idea. But you can get a crate engine for about 8k plus taxes.
Has anyone done one yet? Have any thoughts on this option.
Thanks Roland

No matter how easy the interweb might make it sound, engine swaps will nickel and dime you with little things the write-ups (if they existed) fail to mention. You'll be thrown curve ***** on fuel lines, power steering hoses, steering box clearance, getting gauges to work, etc etc (all only examples in general of engine swaps).
If you can think on your feet, have extra EXTRA time for the truck to be down, have extra budget for the unforseen, are good at improvising and diagnosing electrical, go for it. It'd be a cool swap but it won't be a weekend project and the $8k for the crate engine is just enough to get you into trouble and keep you committed 'cause it'll be too late to turn back after that.
I also wouldn't put the 7.3 gasser behind the 4R70/5 or an 8.8 or 9.75, so plan on at least a trans swap. I guess you could run your rear axle 'til it grenades
With most things. I buy the best i can afford. But do like older style of vehicles. But needed something to be super strong and dependable.
Like your thoughts re transmission though. 10speed would be great.
Thanks for the input its appreciated.
