Hey guys I own a 2002 f150 4.2L
This morning I started my truck and my theft light started blinking
longer flashes than the normal blips that occur when driving
It kept flashing then stayed on for a few miles then shut off and worked as usual
I understand if you try to start the truck with a non flashed key it wont work but I was using the original key and everything worked as expected
The key could be worn down not turning the lock assembly all the way, but enough and the system thinks it is not right, but the chip says it is. Had that happen once and thanks to AAA they made me a good chip key free for my truck. Not saying that is what it is, but could be if that key is over twenty years old.
If it was the key and a true PATS failure, the engine would not have started.
Pretty odd symptom. Never heard of a THEFT light slow-flashing on a F150 while the engine was running. FWIW, the THEFT light would never be expected to come on while running. Rather, only when OFF or at system initialization.
Wondering if the cluster had a hiccup that caused it to go through it's boot-up sequence but, since the engine was already running, the PCM ignored that blip and kept on running the system...
