Truck Traction Bars

My truck's got some crazy wheelhop and i need a traction bar to stop it. I can't use traditional slappers because the axle's under the leafs, meaning i need a traction bar that's much like a fourlink. and as it's still an open flange frame so i'll need one with a large plate that welds/bolts to the web

Unfortunately, they all seem to be wildly expensive, for what's essentially some bent plate, tube stock and heim joints.

Epiq Suspension 84" Traction Bars ? Dunks Performance

lowest i've found is 500 dollars for a weld in setup, which again, seems excessively expensive when speeday carries full on ladder bars for about half that. Am i just looking in the wrong places or what?

Would anyone know of a place to get something for a reasonable cost? I could fabricate something myself but all I really have is an angle grinder and hand drill, so if i could buy a more precise kit I'd prefer to.

Have a set of original Traction Master bars (chrome plated ) Will need fabbed axle brackets & plates up front . The front brackets are simple . Flat plate attached under rear running board bracket off the frame .

I assume you don't have a stock engine? Is the rear end stock? I'm honestly surprised at an F-3 that has wheel-hop.

No, no and the wheelhop so bad, after this clip the shackle bound up against the spring and i had to use a sledgehammer to free it

I removed over half the springs, it's now riding on 7 instead of 14 (i think). Still pretty stiffly sprung but the wrap/hop is pretty bad, and i may or may not have built the truck specifically to convert tires into smoke so that won't do

How long is it, and is it adjustable? I need to make it past the front shackle pin bracket and i'd like some wiggleroom if i play with the ride height at all.

I think you just need some weight on the back .
See what it's like when you have a bed on it .

Offroad style shackle front anti-wrap bars

Why can't you use slapper bars? I've seen them used on both spring under and spring over applications.

Different style I've seen also from James Duff

I agree with Scott. Way back in 1975 I had a 56 and drove it around the block with no bed (neighborhood kids loved it), it did the same thing, put a bed on it and problem went away. No weight no traction

The local speedshop only had the type that mount to the main u-bolts, and I'd not seen slappers on over axle applications, wasn't aware that worked.

Well I feel a fool now. I guess the link style stuff is only needed for lifted applications that slappers of any size couldn't reach, which would explain the expense

I thought so too, but I had it out yesterday with the bed on and punched it, still a problem now. I suspect i might have to take a degree out of the pinion too.

One particular kid on the side of the road lit up like a christmas tree too, wholesome as hell. Felt great to make his day.

I have these on my 63, the springs are on top of the axle.

I made a set of ladder bars on my 56 when I installed the 9" under it. I used 4 tubes that went up under the cab and made a crossmember to attach to. The fronts are tied together and a Heim end is holding it to the crossmember. The back is a "C" bracket that is bolted to the rear with a "C" bracket on the back side, The whole thing has tension up to the front Heims and it puts the tires down on the ground when I get on it No axle wrap on take off . Have a 427/4spd side oiler for power it reacts and plants it so the tires grip and it learches forward with no wheel hop. Won`t spin either. Just goes straight.

After taking some measurements, I couldn't use the sort that clamps ahead of the axle, as the shortest i could find was 28 inches and i needed a length of 18 1/2".

Called the local speed shop and the only thing that could possibly work is this

https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/lak-22026

It'll need a large vertical offset as the F3 has the flipped shackle bracket, which needs a 2" offset at minimum for the snubber to work and not hit the bracket. There's also no number for vertical offset for the axle so we're just going to have to hope it clears i guess.

Fingers crossed
