Been searching here and elsewhere, I can't find a good answer. I'm sure others have experienced the weird jerk and hesitation the 10 speed is getting a rep for (on my 2018 LariatI). Has anybody had theirs reprogrammed with any success? I did go to the Ford site and learned there have been no recalls, and only one Service Bulletin for freezing door locks. TIA
Many threads on this topic. Bottom line, others claim there are great tunes for the transmissions. Keep in mind, you tune it, you own it, no more warranty. You might start off with a reset and let the transmission re-learn your driving habits.

SpencerPJ, My bad, I meant factory reprogram, I wouldn't take a chance on a commercially supplied one. (I DID get excellent results from Power Hungry Performance years ago on a set of six tunes for the ECM on my 02 7.3). So I take it from your answer that there is nothing the dealers can do? BTW, i figured no doubt there'd be activity here about it, but a few attempts at a search provided only one unrelated thread about the 10 speed. I wish I could learn what the trick is in using the search function here. Anyway, thank you for responding!
People (or you) upload files into your trucks computer that changes the factory ones. The factory ones sometimes do not have your best interest in mind, seeking mpg and other guberment hardships. Some swear by them for me, I'm not altering anything until my truck is out of warranty.
SpencerPJ, I hear ya about the warranty. I'm not trying to get anything out of the transmission more than proper operation. Wount'd even think about voiding the warranty. I appreciate all the info, thanks.
What is proper operation?
Do you have a standard to compare to?
What about all the selectable shift modes?
They all change the shift points in some way..
You have not offered and reference to what you think is a problem.
Bluegrass, I said in my post it was "jerky and hesitant". I assumed it was an inherently implied deduction that "normal operation" would be where it doesn't "jerk and hesitate". The "standard" I used is personal experience of good shifting and not-so-good shifting transmissions. "What about all the selectable shift modes"? You'd have to tell me, I gave it not a moment's thought as I haven't used any of them yet. As for (offering and?) "reference to what (I) think is a problem", I didn't think "jerky and hesitant" needed any referencing. I wouldn't know where to begin. In fewer words, Hunh?
Reset the adaptive learning. Also know that all the mode selections play into the learning. The more you use tow haul the more it will hold gears and downshift early even in normal. The biggest thing I tel people is don't drive it like a 6 speed. You will figure out where you can and can't make sudden throttle inputs, mostly from 3rd to 5th and 7-8 or you will get a clunk. The program actually cuts power in those gears if you exceed the threshold. The easiest way to tell if the trans has learned bad habits is watching the gear changes. Does it shift 1-2? Or does it skip 2nd and go to third from a stop with normal throttle?
Ford 390, Thanks for the response, good to know stuff. So do I understand you to say I should use all the other modes? Whether I need them or not? I'm not necessarily looking for quicker downshifts. And yes, mine does seem to skip gears, like 3-5, especially if a little extra throttle. It seems to just love 7th, lingers there more than it should. Sure sounds like resetting the learning program is the most sensible and practical place to start. I'm going searching for info on Forscan. Sounds interesting.
You can reset it on the go with forscan Lite and a cheap ELM327 Bluetooth adapter. When I referred to the other modes I should have been more clear. Those modes the more you use them will alter the shifting and alter the shift characteristics in Normal mode. You will notice after lots of tow haul that Normal mode starts to shift like tow haul. This is Fords intelligent learning that's gone too far. On the other hand the GM version of this transmission doesn't adapt to the modes so Ford could have definitely left this out.
