resetting the 10 speed

as some of you probably recall, i had a '20 f250 7.3 that had a horrible tranny. i got rid of it for a '20 f350 6.7. the tranny was perfect for the first 2000 miles. shortly after turning over 2000 miles, it has been acting up. hunting for gears, getting confused on what gear to be, dead pedal, holding gears too long and not upshifting or not down shifting, banging on shifts.

when i was raising concerns about 7.3 10 speed, others have stated that i can take it to the dealer and have them reset the adaptive learning tables. what exactly should i ask for in case they try to say it can't be done? and how do i confirm that it was actually completed?

You can also reset the adaptive learning tables with ForScan

I actually want to try this on my 19. Is the procedure found somewhere in the sticky?

I don't have forscan so that doesn't do me any good at the moment.

I disconnected the battery around 1000 miles for a few hours and the transmission is almost near perfect now. Knock on wood!

Is this truly the only way to have the transmission reset is by going to dealer, disconnecting battery or FORscan?

This seems so asinine.... 13year old car I just have to place in neutral hold both paddles in for 10sec and it’s reset...

it just amazes me so many things that are so simple to provide are eliminated in domestics.

There is definitely a philosophy difference... the owners manual is pathetic from Ford and the maintenance section is even worse...

Apologies for the rant, but this is the area that has been the most disappointing from new ownership... My BMW owners manual is filled with technical information in good detail and came with a completely separate maintenance manual with pages and pages of means to record service information. My Ford came with zero means to record service👎 I’ll add my own, but this use to be minimum expectation.

I blame lawyers and lazy consumers...

First and foremost disconnecting the battery does absolutely nothing. These trucks all use modules with non volatile memory. It's takes 30 seconds to reset with Forscan Lite. So if you don't want the 15.00 investment then go to the dealership and I will bet you will be time and money ahead going with forscan.

Is the procedure obvious after connecting the vehicle to FORScan? I have made various changes using the program and would like to do this reset.

Never used FORScan lite.

It's been said by a few people that disconnecting the batteries doesn't do anything for the adaptive learning for the tranny. I tried it in my '20 7.3 250 and it didn't do anything.

So resetting is at the dealer or forscan.

Like I said, the tranny was perfect until about 2000 miles. Then I started playing with the drive mods and it hasn't been been right since. Especially since I drove home 40 miles in the snow in "slippery" mode right around 2000ish miles. It's almost like the shift strategy is stuck between slippery and normal.

Very easy, its under service procedures. Select reset adaptive transmission and click play. It takes a few seconds and it's done.

Yes is very possible, mine if I use lots of tow haul mode shifts abruptly. A reset clears the annoying shifting. I do a lot of logging on mine so I use Forscan Lite and a reset is just a few clicks away at any time I like.

Same drivetrain, similar miles. Just started doing this to me also. Seems to me that I can reset the TCM but wouldn’t it just “learn” the same behavior again?

Yes it will learn your driving style, the downside is Ford also programmed it to learn all driving. So if you reset it and hit the road in traffic it will learn and adjust shift points or if you go tow haul and do a lot of grade braking it will learn that. I find the learning absolutely annoying and have since Ford got heavy with the learning over 10 years ago. The stock baseline is smooth and consistent. I just want it to stay on the baseline programming, I don't need it to think or learn. I like predictable drive quality and performance.

This brings up a question, I have seen learn procedures for various vehicles involving a certain amount of throttle at a certain speed, then stopping and repeating at a different speed and on and on. Is there any such suggested for these trucks?

Also, do you reset the module too?
