Flooding

I have an 86 1/2 ton 2 wd with a 302 efi with dual tanks. I have changed all 3 fuel pumps and the DFR. The truck still floods fuel out of the front tank while rear tank is selected. Also the high pressure pump whines when front tank is selected...no whining at all when rear tank is selected. Help please! I love my truck!

Welcome to FTE.

I am not 100% up on the EFI trucks with dual tanks but IIRC from posts the fuel PSI is what changes what tank the fuel is pulled from and returned to.
It sounds like that switch is not working as it should. It may be pulling from the right tanks when picked but fuel is only retuning to the front tank.
That is where I would start looking for this flooding issue.

As for the wine I cant help but I would say as long as it is making noise it is working just make sure you have gas in the other tank for when it fails LOL

Thanks Dave. I siphoned 10 gallons of gas out the front tank yesterday. I just read that I need impeller style pumps in the tanks for the DFR to function correctly. Wonder where I find those?

Your problem will be pictured below. It's mounted on the frame rail. It's called a "fuel reservoir" and it's what switches the tanks.

Yes I have installed that one from Amazon on my truck. Fuel still flooded out of the front tank. When idling now on back tank she dies. When idling on front tank high pressure pump on frame rail whines...real noticeable high pitch...just want my old truck to function properly.

Are you sure you have the lines hooked up correctly? The suction lines are larger than the return lines, so you can't get that part mixed up. But you could get the return and suction lines mixed up front tank and rear tank. Also make sure each in tank pump is running when you switch tanks. The pressure from the in tank pump is what activates the switching valve pictured above.

Ok I will double check the fuel lines and the pumps. Is there anything I should have done to the DFR before I installed it? I have new pumps and float assemblies in each tank.

What is the DFR? Is FR fuel regulator?

It should just plug right in place. You might want to get someone to switch the fuel tanks back and forth while you are under the truck. See if you can hear the front pump and then the rear pump run, and put your hand on the reservoir and see if you can feel it clunking back and forth.
