After chasing around with the salesman and his manager, I now have the individual trailer TPMS option that I ordered with my 2021 super duty, which I took delivery of a week ago. (When I picked up the truck, the salesman put a box in the truck and told me it was the TPMS kit. Later after I got home I discovered it was a gooseneck hitch kit. Not only did I not order a gooseneck hitch, my truck does not even have the gooseneck prep package. But I digress.) I have a couple of questions about the trailer TPMS:
In the install manual that came with the kit, the screenshots imply the system may support up to six sensors, but the kit comes with only four. Has anyone successfully added two additional sensors? My trailer has four tires, but ideally I would like to use a 5th sensor for the trailer spare tire, and the 6th sensor for the superduty spare tire. (Depending on where I end up placing the TPMS module, it might, or might not, be able to reach a sensor in the superduty spare tire.)
Even though I ordered only the trailer TPMS, and not the trailer rear view camera, the harness that came in my kit includes the camera connector (4 wire) on the trailer end of the harness. The install directions are generic and seem to assume I have a camera. Can I simply not connect the 4-wire camera connector (seal it up/leave the wiring connections open) and the TPMS works properly, or?
As far as the kit goes, yes its a generic kit. I taped off the camera connector to keep water out of it and zip tied it up to the trailer frame for future use.
Putting the TPMS in the spare tires won't do anything unless theose tires are in use and the sensors are programmed. The sensors need rotation to turn on and send signal.
The truck was ordered with the "individual trailer TPMS option" (no camera), and it also has the "ultimate trailer tow camera system w/pro trailer backup assist" package. The box that was shipped from Ford is part number LC3Z-1A189-E. The 2021 Ford RV & Trailer Towing Guide says this is the "TPMS ONLY (Less Pro Trailer Backup Assist)" part number. (It also lists 5 other part numbers associated with the TPMS/Camera options) . All this aside, the wiring harness in the box has the 12-pin connector that connects to the truck on one end, and on the other end the harness breaks out into two cables, one of which ends in the 4-pin TPMS connector, the other of which ends in the 6-pin (only 4 of which are used) camera connector.
According to the Towing Guide, it looks like the part number that would have exactly matched what I ordered is LC3Z-1A189-B "TPMS ONLY (w/Pro Trailer Backup Assist)". Maybe Ford is backordered on some of the TPMS/Camera part numbers, and is shipping whatever it has that can be made to work, or maybe the descriptions in the Towing Guide are wrong, or ?
For someone who is reading this and has the camera: it looks like there is an additional "Camera Jumper Harness" that did not come with the part number I received. This would provide an additional length of cable for the camera beyond that provided by the harness I received.
The yaw sensor/cable that is used with a gooseneck trailer changes the cable configuration. I don't know what all the details of that are.
