I have the MX4, highly recommend it. The F1 is the fancier version i think. I will say if you are looking security, skip this brand. If you want water tight, look elsewhere. I have had mine for two plus years and i am very happy with it. my truck is parked out side half the time and my cover has worn well in the Phoenix sun.
I actually had 2 F1's only because one was replaced under warranty. That said, both were holding water inside the panels. Now this was 4 plus years ago, maybe they fixed the issue. Personally I will never get one again.
I’ve been happy with it, but it’s imperfect. Nice to open and close the tailgate without having to fold the cover. Mine with proper install has been close to waterproof other than a little bit right by the tailgate.
when you do open the cover fully, you need to take some care in closing it. If the fit is tight and waterproof you can have panel misalignment and need to fold the panels down carefully so as not to pinch the gasket.
I have had no problems with the foam core retaining water, but that’s an interesting possible point of failure if the aluminum channel surrounding it isn’t sealed.
all in all, I would buy again tomorrow but I’m only 2.5 years in. The ability to have a generally closed bed, but spontaneously convert to a fully open bed if I find myself needing it at the hardware store... has been really useful.
I've had BAK MX4 on my truck for the past 6 years and 200,000 miles. Just ordered a new MX4 for my new truck.
Have not seen anything think is whole lot better.
I bought the f1 because they gave the same price as mx4 since the mx4 is back ordered and they had one F! left. I was over trying to take the garage door rolling one that leaked a lot. to the next truck ....
I have sold/installed quite a few of the bakflips and they are one of my favorites. great quality/durability and simple installation. Holds snow as well pretty dang well lol

hey just wondering if those are the ford oem stowable ramps - do the mounting brackets work with the F1?

and I had the same and they would not warranty the issue or even discount a replacement. I think they have since resolved the issues but the early ones sucked. I went with a Truxedo Sentry Ct Tonneau and what a great cover.
I had one of those BAKFLIP F1 before switching to retrax, it last me for more than 5 years actually on my F150 '12 and it is actually more premium looking than the mx4 and it's lightweight too. if you are looking for one try checking tonneaucovered.com
I have the BAK made Ford cover on my 21 F250. Rubber "hinge" failed after 2 years. Realtruck/BAK tells me I have to go through Ford dealer for warranty. Not going to do that for other reasons. Had a Pace Edwards for 18yrs on my 2001 before it failed, then a folder, forget the brand but it had full length piano hinges and it was going still going strong when I sold the truck. Don't waste your money on BAK, (or the OE unless ford has switched supplier) I have a Diamondback Switchback on order, will post pics of failed BAK and new Switchback when it comes in next month. Right now Black Gorilla tape is holding up pretty good, maybe BAK should include a roll with every cover they sell.
