2007 F-150

Air only blow from dash vents. Could not switch to floor or defrost.

Driver side. Look up above the gas pedal. 3 bolts. 8mm wrench. 1 wire harness connector. 4 minutes, if you have very small, nimble hands..

The device you're showing is known as a "blend door actuator motor" and is NOT related to your issue here. This is a common problem on the E-Series and typically means some part of the vacuum air flow control has failed. Can you increase or decrease the air temperature with the control on the dashboard? If yes then its somewhere in the vacuum system.

I have a **** on my dash which controls the air flow. It's the switch on the passenger side.

It could turn off the air flow, with nothing coming out of any of the vents. It could send air flow, hot and cold, to the floor, to the dash, to the defrost on the windshield. My airflow either turns off, or only blows from the dash vent. This leads me to believe that either the mode door is stuck, or the actuator isn't working.

I removed the part. I turned the switch. The blower tuns on and off. The gears did not spin. I plugged in a new part. The gears on the new part spin. I manually moved the mode door to verify that it wasn't broken or stuck. I installed the new part. Now the blower sends air to the floor, to the dash, and to the defrost, as I turn the switch.

I had a problem. And now that problem has been fixed by changing the above listed part. At least on my truck, that part was the solution.

You have been around a long time, and dispensed great advice over the years. I'm not disagreeing with your point of view. As I recall, F-150 trucks are built in many configurations. There must be some variance to the way the climate control systems are configured. Some have rear seats. Some rear seats have separate climate controls. Some have air conditioning. Some trucks are only single cab 3 seaters, vs 4 door Crew Cab.

 

There are 3 different parts, which look very much alike.



I changed part YH1769.



YH1752 is the blend door actuator. This is the part you need when the truck only blows hot air or cold air. It is found behind the stereo, next to the glove box.


Then there's YH1884. Recirculated air for A/C, or fresh air from outside. Kind of behind the glove box. Sort of above the fuse panel.

 

I actually took off the knee panel. It was the first thing that I did. The iron support bracket is in the way. I don't know how much of the truck you guys are willing to take apart to get to this little part. You could continue with removing the gas pedal, the dashboard, the center console........that was Tuesday. It's now Saturday. My back still hurts. For anyone else who has to try to do this, you could try using a a combination of extensions and universal joint socket attachments, or a spinning ratchet. Being stubborn, I was fixated on the idea of crawling on the floorboard, twisting my body at an angle, flashlight between my teeth, reaching up with 1 hand, and using a little 3 inch long box wrench. It took a long time turning those fasteners 1/6 of a turn at a time, dropping the wrench, dropping the screws, dust in my eyes, my back spasming, and my hand cramping. Not to mention that I had to deep throat a 3 D battery MagLite.

But at least I'm not stuck on air blowing out of the dash vents. Now I can select the floor vents, since heat rises. And I have a defroster again. Important to be able to see out the windshield.

I have done a few of these actuator motors on different cars over the years. All are simple to do, and a real pain to access. Some people say to stick to MotorCraft parts. The failed part is a MotorCraft. I have used aftermarket. My truck is currently running a Dorman with no issues.
