I've had a Viair 12 volt that was expensive but small. I somehow bricked it on a camping trip in November. It turns on but makes a wheezing sound and no air comes out. Of course I'm well past the 1 year warranty. Planning to pull the fiver for work later this week and need a compressor. Hate to invest in a Viair for the $$ and lack of durability. Thoughts? 6 gallon pancake compressors are bigger but cheaper. There's a 1 gallon Ryobi at HD but not sure that's enough?? Any advice welcome.
All the 12v pumps are cheaply made and run super hot. A 120v pancake compressor might fill up one tire before it needs plugged in. Gasoline compressors are expensive unless you make one or find a used one.
If you have a spare tire that should get you to a gas station with air.

I need something to air up cold tires 10 psi when temps drop, etc. That's what I used the Viair for. Used it several times on a 3 month trip to Alaska, for example. I rarely find gas stations with air that goes above 45 psi. I need 80.
I use a Ryobi 120 PSI portable compressor, but I have a lot of Ryobi tools and batteries already. It's quite a bit more if you have to buy the compressor, battery and charger all at once.
I bought a 3 gal 120V compressor from harbor freight to fill the tires on my Dually, it works great. I power it with an 1000 Watt inverter inside my Camper.
the inverter comes in handy powering other items in the camper also laptops cell booster etc. just wired to my camper batteries, could also be wired to your on board truck battery also. The inverters don’t take up much space.
