I'm not walking to the top of that hill with the other tailgate carriers!
I've got a garage art project going on. My son stopped over to visit so he helpd me take it off the wall. I didn't want to risk doing it myself and dropping it on my truck.
@avf100 John - is there a way to direct message you? I am about 30 miles south of you, and had a few questions on my 48. Appreciate it.
sure, you can send me a private message. Right under where it says welcome Ford48Ford when you sign in, click on the private messages, then you can send me a pm
I suppose I could pm 52 USCG Panel....but to reply to his earlier inquiry....
This won't help much, but I believe I was recently quite surprised when I saw those 9.5" arms somewhere online or catalogue. Sorry I don't remember, But don't give up looking just yet.
I was going to go with the 9.5" arms on my 49 truck, but could not find them at the time. I first saw them on a 52 F-1 Five star. Maybe ask First Ride?
Agree with 52 Merc about small round mirrors, I went rectangular (smallish but 2x bigger than round) so I could see better. Some mods are needed for daily drivers.
For my money, those rectangular mirrors, especially on panels look far more "fiftyish" than the round ones. The shape more matches the smooth, last of the art decco, curves of the Panel.
If you want round mirrors, send me a pm and I will try to dig them out and you can have them for free. One is convex - an attempt to improve vision while keeping stock look.
Is it possible to not be accused of hijacking here?
Before Abe made it big as a star TV pitch man, with a tailgate under his arm, he was affectionately known on our forum for his fixations with meadow green paint and oem outside mirrors. LOL.
...and speaking of mirrors, Abe brought to my attention some ****** Jeep mirrors for sale on eBay that had the shorter arms and round five inch mirror heads I was looking for. Since Abe apparently wasn't going to give me anything from his mirror stash in his basement, I ordered a set. I'll be sure to share how they work out. They are repo's rather than originals--also made in India. How could they possibly not be just the perfect thing for my truck?
Thanks for thinking of me, Electricmaniac. We'll see how the Jeep mirrors work out. Like you, I may just end up using the new the arms and keep my larger rectangular mirrors. The five inch round ones may be hard to get used to again.
Abe's advice worked out good, although for him to be recommending something having to do with truck mirrors that wasn't original equipment, was a bit out of character. He needs to watch himself. He'll be a "darksider" before he knows it.
It's not generally known, but Abe has a synchro transmission in his truck from who knows what year--and now he's out openly endorsing his friends to put Jeep parts on their trucks. What will be next? He looks like a pretty committed Ford man in his commercial with that tailgate under his arm, but who really knows? LOL.
This isn't a great pic, but it shows a close up of one of my new Jeep mirror arms:
I think the quality is acceptable, and I like the fact that the length is adjustable. I should be able to get them dialed in for the best view possible. The arms came with 5 inch round mirror heads that I decided not to use. My original mirrors were round, but I think they were bigger than 5 inches. For now, I'm keeping my cheap-o rectangular ones. At some point, I may try to get new glass for my original mirrors (Abe would like that).
Your truck looks great! Just the stance and "ready for work" kind attitude that a real truck should have.

Well, we did give him cookies once. He must have eaten a few. You know what they say, "come to the dark side, we have cookies". MMMmmmmmmmm
