Lots of timeframe info in there. Some people get VIN numbers a few days after ordering some only a few days before production. Looks like it averages 30 days or so. I ordered on 12/12 and received my VIN on 1/13.

I think it is given once it is scheduled for production. My truck was picked up on order by Ford 3 days after I ordered, VIN didn't come for another 6 weeks.

VIN comes quickly as the order is pulled by Ford. Perhaps your dealer delayed in providing you with a VIN.
The advice I give people is to consistently ask for a copy of the current Vehicle Visibility Report if you are interested in hounding the dealer for details. Leaves less open to interpretation.

My dealer didn't delay in providing me anything. My order was picked up by Ford 2 days after the order was placed. The VIN was not assigned until Ford scheduled my order for production. Yours may have been different, but mine was not assigned until time of schedule, not at the time the order was accepted. It may have been a delay in a certain component, but that is how it went with mine. I understand what the visibility reports are, and have seen mine. Granted, this was during covid. Truck was ordered in March, order accepted 2 days later, plant opened in May, VIN was assigned about 2 weeks after plant opening and build week was assigned. Your mileage may vary!

I ordered 11/30, dealer says “Ford hasn’t picked up the order yet”. No VIN, no date, no nothing. I need the truck by May and I’m starting to get nervous...used inventory near me is nil, and new inventory is entirely XL work trucks or high end stuff, not the Godzilla XLT like I ordered. I wish there was more transparency to this process so I could try and plan

That they did all they could on their end and that it was Ford’s fault it hadn’t been picked up. They keep telling me everything is fine and they’re not worried.

2021 F250. Build Sheet was delivered to Ford Order Bank on 10/29. VIN assigned the following week. Two weeks later Order sent to plant for build.
Two weeks after receipt of Build Order by plant, truck released to rail. Delivered to dealer on Xmas Eve (SoCal).
My dealer, without asking, gave me an update every Friday. Even if there was no change. Fantastic service from them after trying to work
with several other dealers.

Ordered mine 10/19. Order loaded in system 10/20. VIN issued several days later when production week identified. Built 12/12 and in my hands the day after Xmas. Even guys at dealer were surprised it was picked up so quickly.
BTW, I had a priority number of 20 for a retail build.
Thanks to it coming in quick, I was able to take advantage of ECO that popped up on Ford App. Excellent Xmas all the way around.
