8BA camshafts

I have a 1950 Ford F1 and the camshaft is rubbing on the front cover of the engine. Is there more than one camshaft for it? Are there different lengths of camshafts? Any help would be appreciated.

The front timing cover has a thrust pad to locate the cam. (see pic) Is that where it is rubbing? That's normal. Or is it something else?

Ford only made one length for 8BA style camshafts. Length has been known to vary a bit, so checking is a good idea. The timing cover sets the camshaft end play. With not enough end play two timing cover gaskets can be used. For too much end play, no gasket. I have not personally encountered parts where this wouldn't work, but have heard of skim cuts on the end of the cam or back of the timing cover in extreme situations.
