Rough Idle 1995 302ci
I have been having a rough idle condition. The motor idles fine for a second then spits or sputters like a miss but just feels rough. It works better in the cold weather and when under a load such as the A/C compressor being on. I have replaced the O2 sensor, wires, plugs, MAF sensor, distributor cap/ rotor. I just got an emissions test that showed the motor running very lean. How do I get the engine to run richer or what causes it to run lean?

This may be totally wrong but I had similar symptoms with my old 90 F150 at one time and I replaced the fuel filter. Fixed it that time. Could also be the regulator.

Thanks for responding. I have replaced the fuel filter but am not sure which regulator you are talking about. Please clarify as I will try anything.

bgodkn thanks for your help. Is this something that is easy to replace? This is different from the actual fuel pump, right? Thanks for your response.

Don't buy a new regulator yet. Check the fuel pressure on the outbound side of it first. You should be getting around 39 PSI. It could also be dirty injectors or a dirty throttle body. The fuel pressure regulator is located at the back of the intake manifold it is a small round can about 2" in diameter with fuel lines running to it.
