tail light heaven!
So i am doing a refresher on my great uncles trailer. According to my father they built 4 of these trailers.
Seems like they just used some good old US steel cause well after being built in in 68 there is just some surface rust in places.
Anyways thought you all would appreciate tail lights. I have not been able to find any real info on them.
Or was that your family that made 4 trailers?
As for the lights Ford did not make all the parts used on our trucks they were gotten from others like shown on the lights from Signal Stat.
Yes flare side lights were gotten from Signal Stat.
Us 80-86 flare side guys have the same problem of finding tail lights that will fit with out any work needed.
Your best bet is to look thru Signal Stat lights and pick out ones that will work for you but note you will need to do some work to make them work.
We get ones that will bolt to the brackets but the wiring needs adapting to make them work.
We cut the pig tail off the old lights and splice them on the new ones and they then are a Plug-N-Play.
Now if you look at them lights you pulled off the trailer they have back up bulbs in them.
Does the trailer connection and trailer wiring set up for back up lights?
Most (99%) are not and if not and you would need to make any light you get work why not get the cheap money wise trailer light kit set?
It comes with the 2 tail lights, wiring with the tow side & trailer side plug, flat 4 and if you get the right kit comes with side marker lights.
You can get this same kit in LED's if you want.

These light housing are very brittle now and i broke a stud on one side getting the nut off.
So i will be upgrading the lights to new ones.
The mounting hardware is really spot on. 2in on centers which works with Paterson if i want to keep old school look.
I was looking through trailer.com to see what is available.
Since i haul wood with it can get up to 2t of weight which the trailer handles smoothly.
I will be upgrading the wiring to a 7 plug so i can add trailer brakes.
The trailer was wired with a 4 plug standard and then a extra wire was added special for reverse lights. The 4 wire is in a plastic that i am sure is toxic to humans, the reason i say that well after all that oil grime and time its still 100% encased the wires. Lol

No these trailers were home built. I know of one that went to scrap. The other 2 i would have to ask if they are still around. The one that went to scrape my father owned and it saw a lot of beach time so the salt water just rusted to far to save. Time money energy kind of thing.
The one I have lived in higher desert so lived a less harsh life. My great uncle used it to do light yard work and leaf removal.
My grandfather and uncle were both Ford guys. One a truck driver the other lumber industry.
So they always had spare parts on hand.
The lights were added when my grandfather purchased a camper for his 78 f250 camper special.
Since in my state the lights where not a requirement since you can see the rear of the vehicle.

Being you are kind of rewiring the trailer I would find a light that will bolt up (no drilling) and you like and go with them.
7 pin / flat blade connector will also have a blade for back up lights IIRC.
I cant remember if my truck side is wired for back up lights or not?
On the truck side I am using a Tee between the frame rail & tail light harness and cut the flat 4 off, guess not back up lights
and ran a electric brake & power charge wire from the front to the rear.Never know what you may pull but my car trailer only have brakes and normal lights no back up or battery.
