Why might my 6.7 go to limp mode and put out code P1291, only when the engine is cold or cooled significantly? Once the engine temp gets to roughly 150, it doesn't bother at all. When I start it in the morning, it'll run on all 8 as long as I don't try to give it any throttle. Once it starts to warm up, as long as I don't give it much throttle, (say 2,000rpm) I can head out. If it goes to limp mode, I have to shut it off, restart and go again. Like I said, once I get it to roughly 150* you wouldn't know that there was a problem. I don't see why it would be an injector...??? Thanks
Maybe you have a frayed wire/harness on bank 1 that when cold it is grounding out to the some metal area on the engine? Once warm, items relax or move some to open the "grounding"?
If it says HOT SIDE.....there should only be one side that is hot (12vdc)...I believe Bank 1 is the passenger side engine since it is cylinders 1, 2 , 3 and 4.
I found the problem. The wiring for injector #5 had been at one time rerouted and was pulled tight over the injector line, and slowly rubbed through. Infact it was so small of a spot I almost didn't see it. The shiny spot on the fuel line is what caught my eye. Thanks for the help!!
