Anybody know how the testing works/what they look for? I'm under the impression that they just test the exhaust gasses for pollutants. But is there a physical inspection? I've got a 75 F150 with the 390. My truck was originally from CA so there is some smog stuff (no idea if it's entirely intact). The PO also had the LPG dual fuel set up on the truck and all the gasoline lines have been removed because he only ran LPG. Running LPG I'm pretty confident it would pass but not sure if the mods would get me in a more complicated situation. Whenever I have gone through it's been in a modern car and they just plug in. For the older stuff do they look harder? This is down the way as my truck need a engine rebuild or swap but I want to know what to expect and how to prep for it, or if I even need to worry much.
I just got my 99 F250 DEQ'd; I was surprised when they stuck the sniffer up the tail pipe instead of hooking into the OBD-II. They did do a visual inspection of the under carriage; presumably to make sure the exhaust system was intact. With yours being a 1975, it may be old enough for an exemption. Not sure what the cut-off year is. EDIT: just noticed this thread is from January
