Hey does anyone know if the shift linkage for a SMOD toploader shares any parts with the original toploader 4 speed?
Here’s a pic of what’s happening to the plate on the transmission side.
basically the pin holes are wallored out and vise grips are holding it together. Hurst no longer sells kits dedicated to the 3+1 unfortunately.
me too, with the o/d shifter problems. thinking about the 4 speed shifter, i think it could be made to work. i have not attempted it yet, but mounting the shifter and adjusting the rods should be doable, even if some fab work is required.
i would like to hear from someone that has conquered this issue.
Exactly, I have come to the conclusion that a Hurst shifter body is the way to go. I want the original handle though for originality and once I find one I will (attemp to) adapt it to a hurst shifter base.
In case anyone is curious the discontinued Hurst shifter assembly was part number 3910024. The shifter body (gate) by itself was part number 3918394 and the hurst handle I believe was 5380085. The installation kit may have been part number 3738620.
You can tell I’ve been researching this a while, lol.

That’s what I was looking for too, the trans code in the Hurst book is 435 for the OD toploader, on some websites 3666809 is listed as compatible but that’s a 3 speed shifter for transmission code 333. I’m at a dead end as well.
