HVAC control unit no power

Hi Guys,
the HVAC Control panel on my 2005 Navigator (was parked for 3 years) does not lit up and nothing on the panel works, so I checked the incoming power on the rear of the panel (C228a).
  • Pin 3 has power like it should
  • Pin 16 has power like it should
  • Pin 2 has Ground
So, my thought: defective panel and I got another one in working condition.
Same issue..............

Any thoughts???

Thanks!

Edit: When I connect only power and ground to the panel and everything else is disconnected, the panel lit up and the switches are working......

Clueless.....

You ran through the fuse panel just to double check ? Looks like fuse 5 & 7 provide some kind of power to the head unit.

If you need a pdf version of your owners manual you can get it here: 2005 Navigator Owners Manual

All the fuses are listed in the Roadside Emergency section.

Fuse box

If there is a short to ground in the other connectors that could cause issues or the ground doesn’t have a good connection. Check the fuse box connectors as these have many issues with corrosion. Might also move the wires that connect to the control panel to see if results change. If it was sitting mice may have gotten into the wiring harness.

Thank you for your thoughts.
Would IDS / VCM II recognize the issue??

vcm II may show results but doubtful if the problem is intermittent.

No. If the head unit doesn't power up, the scan tool would have nothing to talk to.

Try running a self test on the ETAC.

That did not work, no display at all.
One (or more) connection makes the panel unresponsive, because power and ground is there. The next step will be to remove all connections and put them back, one by one to find where is the "crook"

How about if you only connect the power wires to get the unit working and then run the self test. I realize you'll get the obvious codes related to the non-connected circuits. But I'd be more interested if it comes up with an internal issue code for the unit itself or a stored code. Just a thought.

Ok, finally some time.....
The self test is not even starting with only the power (pin 3 / 16, pin 2 ground).
I tried both control panels I have, the original and the replacement.

Assuming it's used, I'd say it looks like the replacement panel is also defective.
