F250 stalling while driving.

It started as stalling while comming to a stop. Putting the truck in neutral while stopping, let it not stall. Only when it was in gear. Reverse was rough as well. Jumping between grabbing the gear and stalling. If I drove in reverse for to log it would stall. (More than 30ft). Without switching to neutral in the middle of the reverse. Recently it has been stalling while driving. No matter the speed, it just loses engine power and dies. It use to start right up, now it takes about 45seconds to be able to turn over. Code came back as knock sensor but could it be anything else? New battery, rough idle in neutral when I have been driving for more than 10mins. Rough as in the rpm climbs and lowers. It has also started to stall while in neutral at stops. Rpms slowly dropped even if hitting the gas. Now it drives about 2mins and stalls

What engine is in it?
What tool are you using to pull codes?

Let's revert to basics.... Fuel, Oxygen, Ignition...

In your opinion, which one is lacking from the fire triangle?

5.4 engine. Tool is a Bluetooth reader someone loaned me since at the time autozone wasn’t doing check engine scans. It works well to my knowledge since I have an issue with a coil pack and it picked it up. In a different car.

Couldn’t say. I thought it may be fuel when it started to stall a lot but I have personally never had an ignition or oxygen issue before so my only opinion would be with fuel.

This may help (a common 5.4L issue anyway, and your symptoms seem to match with a timing issue):

I’ll check. But my truck doesn’t have the knocking or slow to stall. It just stalls to where the video dropped very low but picked back up. Once my Rpm start to drop that’s it. Much easier to check this than to take the intake manifold off

The knock isn't necessarily pronounced with the issue - and you did get a knock sensor code.

Keep us informed.

Understood... Then let's examine the fuel system rather than to off on tangents looking at all the other "could be's"...
Is the fuel tank full?
Are you running HEET (or similar) in the fuel ?
Is the pick up tube in the tank still OEM and functioning?
Rust in the fuel tank ?
Water in the fuel ?
Examine the fuel lines coming out of the tank and running to the engine... Breaks, cracks, Leaks ?
Fuel pump.. Functioning properly ? do you have a way to check fuel pressure ?
Fuel filter ? Condition ? Can you replace it ?
What does your truck have between the engine and fuel pump ? Carb, Injectors, EFI, etc ?

The video describes one easy and free test. Cam timing issues were COMMON with the 5.4L. It matches the code (and reading codes is practically always the best place to start). Proper testing is far from a "tangent".

That said, most free and easy tests aren't a bad thing, and most of what you describe is easy. That said, he implies that he has had this issue long enough for it not to be an issue with running out of fuel.

Might as well add checking oil to the list (and vacuum).

Another good 5.4L video:

Ok so I don’t have the vct that the first video was talking about. Tried looking for the plugs and after some research, 03 and older doesn’t have them? 04 and newer is when it started. As for fuel, it does have fuel no additives, fuel injected. Seems to be no leaks. A buddy said he did smell gas one time it stalled though. I didn’t smell anything though.

Your screen name had 04 in it, so I assumed ... Even so, cam timing issues certainly predate 04 (but you are correct they didn't have phasers or CVT), and it sure sounds like your issue to me.

Sounds like a bad torque converter to me.
