Man not to rain on your parade but it is going to cost a chunk to make it 4x4. You can only do one of 2 things to the front, make it a straight axle or find the dana44 ifs to fit. then you have to buy a t-case, a tranny to adapt, shorter drive shaft and so on. As far as the lift you have to make radius drop down brackets, and axle pivot drop down brackets. That is about it on the front end.
Actually, it's very easy to convert, theres a lot of threads on here about how to do it. The 4wd suspension just bolts right in. Parts are a dime a dozen. Just converting to 4wd alone, will raise the truck 2" over what you have now, and you'll want to install the lift kit at the time of converting to 4wd. Otherwise, you'll be doing the installation twice.
yea making these trucks 4x4 is easy and. do as he says do the lift when u swap the axle in i wish i did
also makin these trucks 4x4 are cheap
front axle $250(ttbdana44)
drive shafts $75(high boys)
transfer case free(divorced 205)
boggers33/14/15$40(junckyard)
lift springs$70(ebay)
lift brackets$148(here)
shocks(free)
odds and ends$75(bearings hubs brake lines)
for a total of $658 not bad if u ask me o and that lift is 8 inchs
i need a steering shock. i imagine they only put them on the 4x4s. i figure i can cut the shaft and put the shock in pretty easy. where can i find such a shock? i need it bad, i can put zero inches of lift on my truck without it. also, when i swap in the 4x4 on my truck do i have to do anything with my computer since its programmed for a 4x2 or does that not matter?

How in the world did you get a set of boggers for $40...
I have to admit though... thats the way to do it of youve got the resources!
they were on a old ford sitting in the yard the lady said 40 buck. i was more than willing to give her more . ohh and that came with 4 15/10 rims i think there the rockcrawler ones.
if i was u i would rade every junkyard around try to find a 4x4 truck thats the most like your and use it for partsthe most a junkyard truck goes for around here is $250
thanks for the tips yall, im visitin the yards soon! my buddy has a 94 150 4x4 and it has some kind of extension shock or somethin on the steering shaft, mine is just straight steel. i cant lift it an inch can i?
does it have a body lift or somthing on it nine doesnt have any thing like that on the sterring shaft and i have 8 inchs of lift so i think it will be fine
A parts truck is your best bet to do a 4x4 conversion. Here are my costs:
1980 F-150 4x4: $100 from the impound lot
Seal/gasket kit for a 9" rear end: $20
Rebuild kit for BW T-18: $130
5 u-joints: $60
So far I am at a total of $290. I know i still need things like radius arm bushings, but in the end i should have a 4x4 F-150 sitting on 31/10.50-15's (came on 4 good ones, need to buy 1 for a spare) for under $1000 which INCLUDES the purchase price of the truck.
It really isn't an expensive proposition if you know where to look and can do your own work. I.E. a shop quoted me $650 to rebuild the T-18. I walked right out the door and had a solid T-18 in about 6 hours for $130.
