I have a 1991 Ford f150 rear wheel drive custom with a 4.9 l inline 6 with E4OD transmission that slips from first to second sometimes on the highway it will all downshift from I believe 4th to 3rd and hit hard every now and then not often couple times a year maybe. But I noticed today after reading forms that I was going to swap out my neutral safety switch after washing a few videos of this mechanic that has plenty of YouTube videos of working on only E4 OD transmissions when I looked under the truck and looked at the neutral safety switch to see if it was the original or if it's been updated I noticed that the shift connector is in the downward position on his videos he said when you put the new neutral safety switch in to make sure that that lever is in the upward position. I'm curious if this is what can be causing my problems or if it's a combination of a feeling throttle position sensor and the neutral safety switch I read a lot about those two mainly on the diesels failing together but I wouldn't see why it would make a difference on a gasoline.
