Power locks upgrade
I decided to tackle adding power locks to my XL truck. The upgrade is very easy. You'll need 2 lock actuators, 2 DPDT momentary on switches, wire(I used trailer light wire because the 4 wires are bonded together) some female 1/4" spade terminals and a couple of eye ring terminals.
Remove the door panels and pull back the plastic seal. I found the indent for the window mount is perfect place to mount the actuators. I screwed the supplied strap to the actuator then bent it so it'd fit in the indent. I used 2 sheet metal screws to mount the strap. I bent the rod so it would line up straight with the lock rod and using supplied hardware attached the 2 .Make sure to check for enough movement up/down. You'll need to run 3 wires from one door to the other. I had to remove the speaker to access the boot going from the door to the jam to fish the wire through. Kind of a pain on the driver's side with the parking brake. Since I had 3 wires together I picked one(brown) to be the + power. I got +, always on power from the trailer brake harness.
At the doors, pick a place for the switch. I goofed on the passenger door. there wasn't enough room behind the switch for the wires so I had to cut a hole in the door for clearance, On the driver's side I put in under the arm rest. plenty of room there. I used a jig saw and slowly made the holes bigger until the switch fit tight. To wire it up, I matched the green wire to the actuator wire(keep it simple) and used yellow for the other one(blue on the actuator). So, on both sides, using a spade terminal, attach a green wire from the other side and green wire to actuator together. do the same for the yellow wires. These wires go on the middle terminals of the switch. Keep in the same position on both switches. Now the brown power + wire, add a spade terminal to each end and a 2-3" piece together. Put a spade on the end of the short wire too. Now make a ground wire. Using white wire I had left over, I made it long enough to reach the sheet metal screw that holds the strap. Use a ring terminal here. On the other end, a spade plus another 2-3" piece with an spade on there. On the switch, attach the + brown wire to one side and the white - wire to the one next to it. Using the 2 short pieces, cross them over X so the brown is across from the white and vice versa. Keep the same position on the other switch. Reassemble the door panel and check for operation. Remember, the power from the trailer breaks is hot so don't be letting it touch metal while your working. Whole project cost about $60
