Put the truck on a diet. Take out everything that isn't nailed down or permanently attached. You can even take off things that are permanently attached if you are that serious. Otherwise the best bang for your buck will be a tank full ( Complete tank, not just 1/2 tank, so don't skimp.) of racing gas and a nitrous kit. You should also take off the muffler because if you have stock muffler it will cost you 20 hp easy when on the laughing gas. Change the heat range of the plugs 2 numbers colder.
Make sure it's tuned up properly. If you race on a really clean street where there is very little dirt in the air you can take out the air-cleaner. Leave the fresh air intake tube, but take out the filter itself.
A short race is won or lost on the starting line. Don't get beat off the line or you have already lost the race. Don't race where somebody can get hurt or killed. Don't let anybody ride with you or him. If somebody gets hurt it should be the two people racing, not innocents. Don't race on busy streets or neighborhoods, it has to be someplace like an industrial park or a clear back road. Race in the daylight if possible so you can see what's out there and others can see you. It's not likely that the cops will see you unless you attract a lot of attention to yourselves.
If it's a stick shift then you need to leave the line at the max rpm you can launch at without smoking the tires. If you have an open diff you need to add weigh to the right rear tire, or take some air pressure out of it because it will want to spin the most. When you shift you have to shift as hard and as fast as possible. Watch the tach or listen to the engine. When it starts to nose over you shift. Don't hit the nitrous until you get to at least 3500 rpm. Don't use it in 1st gear, it will just smoke the tires. Try it in 2nd gear. Third will be o.k. , Fourth will be shaky, I don't think you will get that fast unless it's a long race ( over 1/4 mile) .
I am not condoning your racing illegally. If you race at a track you will have ambulance nearby in case something stupid happens. If you race on the street and you lose your car, your license, your job, your home and nobody dies, then you were lucky. If somebody dies it's callled manslaughter because it happened during an illegal act. Think really hard about that last one, because there are actually people in prison for 10 years over a stupid street race.
Good luck.

FTE does not condone street racing, and in fact strongly discourages it. Excellent reasons for not doing it have already been aptly set forth in the previous posts in this thread...
Jesse, if you guys take it off road for a little fun, make sure you are in front of the Dakota at all times, as they have developed a reputation for failing (completely) front ball joints...
