Hello,
as you know we just recently had an Ex lost to a rollover. I have been looking for a replacement since. So.... I found 2 that I am interested in. 1st one ... 2002 Limited 4wd, 4x4, 7.3 with 141K. Has been under coated and is fairly rust free. Would need seat covers redone in both fronts and 2nd row bench. It is totally stock and has never been chipped... etc. It has maintenance records from first owner and current owner.... He is asking 22k.... think I could get it for under 18k
2nd one.... ‘05 Limited, 6.0, 4x4. One owner , garage kept. All service records since new. All done at local Ford Dealership. Spotless inside and out. Never been in snow/salt. So here’s the catch.... 28k! It’s really nice but I’m not sure it’s 28k nice. BTW... it is al stock and still running Ford gold coolant. 0 modifications.
After having a 2001 Excursion XLT and a 2002 F350 Lariat with the 7.3L, I would much prefer the 7.3L over the 6.0 plus you would save at least $6,000 to get new seat covers.
100k on 6.0. I am in Western Pa and I do worry about rust on any vehicle. The 7.3 has been driven through Pa winters since new. Current owner did have a rust repair done on drivers side rear rocker. He did have the whole frame / undercarriage descaled, treated and under coated. The 7.3 definitely shows it’s age more than the 6.0. It will probably ending up being a difference of 10k though. I realize I can get a new interior and body work if needed for less than the 10k difference. I am still torn though because that 6.0 looks showroom. I currently own 2 6.0s. A 2003 Ex and a 2006 F350 dually. So I do know what the 6.0 takes to maintain. I have also owned 3 7.3s. 6.0 out runs and out tows the 7.3 by far.... but at a higher cost.
On the surface the white one looks good, but I do see a bit of rust starting in the rockers. That one is bulged out just a bit. While not catastrophic, I'd always opt for less rust wherever budget allows.
10/4 on that! I’ve been through the chasing rust thing. If it was going to be a spare vehicle that I didn’t care about it being down for body/ paint work that would be one thing. This will be dedicated vehicle for DD for wife and son though. I have eliminated the 7.3 due to the rust issues. Ty for your input.

Saw the same thing. Some rust might be acceptable but overlapping seams is a worse problem to cure to do it right. Check your other thread about transport. No 6_blow is worth a ton of cash unless it's bulletproofed by a reputable shop with receipts provided long before offer is made.
The 6.0 has had ARP studs , BPD oil relocation kit with their EGR and oil cooler. All done by a reputable shop with receipts. Also new BPD FICM, blue spring mod, Alternator, batteries... etc. BPD water pump was not done, turbo drain tube upgrade and stand pipes also done at the same time. I have 2 other 6.0s without head studs and I disagree with you... they are very good engines if you keep the oil and filters changed. I don’t out big HP tunes on them and they have all been good to me so far.
