Hey gang, I got some LED headlights for Christmas, I put them in today and.... They look hideous. The buckets are mounted back like they should be, and I have the LED bars clocked at 9 and 3. But when I'm on the road driving, the road/lane ahead is dark and the beam pattern is covering the lane beside me and the ditch. I know lots of guys are running LEDs in stock buckets, but surely this light spread is not acceptable by everyone running them. Am I missing something? Thanks

Sounds very strange. First question—what bulbs are you using? Second question—did you make sure to get all the orings out with the stock bulbs? They like to stick to the housing and you wouldn’t be the first to try to install new bulbs over old orings.

I think the brand is R&S, as far as the orings I'm pretty sure they all came out with the halogen bulbs. The LEDs were tight going in, but didn't have to fight them. The LEDs were $60 a set. I know they're probably not the best out there, but I've read about so many using Beamtech, $39 a set so I would think the quality would be similar. And besides the terrible beam patterns they just don't seem to be very bright. My brother in law has an '05 Dodge 3500. He has LED bulbs, on his passenger side the stock housing is pitted, faded, oxidized.. You name it. His drivers side outer housing is missing, and the inner reflector has been exposed to the elements for at least 6 months so you can imagine how non reflective they are and his LEDS are still brighter than mine with almost new crystal clear housings.
I dont know anything about those but quality, brightness and beam pattern can vary a lot between bulbs. I spent a lot of time researching before I bought mine from headlight revolution. They also do a lot of research on the stuff they sell.

This is the first set of LEDs that I've tried. Used to run the old HIDs in a Tahoe I used to drive. I understand quality will be different with different manufacturers and so on. But.. These LEDs I put in are very similar as far as looks go to so many other bulbs. I mean that there's two sets of staggered LED strips on each side. Just for reference, the Beamtechs I've read about guys running only have a single row of LEDs on each side. I wouldn't think the beam pattern would be this bad.

Are those DOT certified housings? If not and you get the same light pattern just dimmer with halogen bulbs then the housings are the problem not the bulbs.
I want to clarify something that I said about the Beamtech LEDS. I said that they were a single row of LEDs per side, but the Beamtech H13s have a double row. Not really relevant but wanted to clarify what I had said.
OK.. then the bulbs are the wrong type for those housings. Based on the light pattern it looks to me like the LED elements are in the wrong spot inside the housing, if you compare the LED and halogen bulbs side by side the LED diodes have to be in the exact same position as the halogen element front to back relative to the flange and also be clocked correctly.

Thanks, but not quite sure I follow you. As far as the bulbs in these stock housings, they have to be H13s correct?
I just looked up the Headlight Revolution LED lights, and appearance wise they look the same. I know these budget bulbs we are using.. These, Beamtech and so on are budget type bulbs, but shouldn't they fit in the housing the same?
