Query for those techies who might know the answer...
I have a 2020 F-250 with the 6.7 PSD.
I'd like to retain my truck's original ECM in stock form for warranty/whatever other reason.
I'd also like to have an ECM to experiment with, maybe even plug-in and use if I take the truck off-road/on-farm.
Would it be possible to purchase a 2015-2019 ECM and then reprogram (or pay someone to reprogram) that ECM to run my 2020 truck exactly how my factory original one does?
A new 2020 ECM seems to be around $1k but I can find the 2015-2019 ECMs for a song, as they're used.
Am I thinking too simply, here?
I know there's several changes to the 2020 trucks and I'm guessing the ECM is also unique but figured it's worth a new thread query.
If one were to order part number LC3Z-12A650-KANP (new Motorcraft ECM for 2020 6.7 PSD F-250), would it come pre-programmed from Ford or is this essentially a "blank" ECM that you'd need to get loaded/programmed after purchase?
It's pricey but might be worth it to retain the factory ECM and use this "spare" ECM for "testing" tunes when you go off-road.
