Well I have the engine and heads back from the machine shop, everything installed in the block, however I have an issue. I don’t know where tdc is at. I still have the heads off, all I have is the pistons and crank and rods assembled. I also have the lower timing gear on. I have the timing straight up to start.
now I don’t know if I have it at tdc on compression or on exhaust stroke. I don’t want to put the chain and cam gear on with the engine on the wrong stroke. Please help!
The compression stroke is determined by the phase of the cam. Until the chain is installed there really is only 1 tdc for the piston. It is neither compression or exhaust until the cam is linked via the chain. Gears should be positioned so that marks line up. Crank mark @ 12:00 and cam mark @ 6:00
