Looking for a set of NOS ball joints for a '76 Highboy with a Dana 44. Part numbers I came up with are D3TZ-3049-A and D3TZ-3050-A. Green Sales lists them, but I called and they are Moog parts. Google isn't a whole lot of help. Does anyone have a list of newer and older substitute part numbers I can search for?
Tired of changing junk Spicer and Moog joints, would like to try a set of factory Ford.
The factory Ford ones were Spicer since they made the axle.
Chevy and Jeep used the 44 also so if you found NOS ones for them they're the same part. I've had no problem with Moog or Spicer replacements it's just getting them set right that's the trick.
Green Sales called back and did find a set of NOS D3TZ-3049-A, but no D3TZ-3050-A. Anyone have some updated numbers for the D3TZ-3050-A?
As for new replacements, Spicer used to be good, but they seem to have gone down hill in the past 5 years and I have read a lot of the same consensus on other forums.
I've never had issues with Spicer but you need to make sure you're getting their better quality line. They have a cheaper line of parts which I've read is just the parts that fall towards the looser end of their acceptable tolerance. I think it's split by red box/blue box, but it's been awhile since I've bought them and I don't really remember. Also look at XRF ball joints. They're big in the diesel world cause they last under the heavy front ends and can take a little abuse. They're also priced comparable to MOOG or Spicer.

Definitely worth mentioning! A lot of suppliers have 2 or 3 quality levels. Cheap, not so cheap, & better quality with lifetime warranty. I learned this with bearing hubs on a front wheel drive car. Once I switched from the cheapest one to the SKF lifetime warranty part, I never had to change another one. I recently changed a ball joint on a small car and noticed the suppliers offered several ball joints across a wide price range, with/without lifetime warranties.
