Craftec Tonneau

Hey folks. Looking at the Craftec tonneau 152183. Just wondering if anyone has installed these and if there is any drilling (which I don't want to do). I did message Craftec but haven't heard back yet and I like talking to someone who has actually done this. The generic instructions don't really talk about what I wanted to know. I have a 1956 F100 with the Mar-K short box and stake pockets.

I passed on that cover thinking it would become a leaking pool in a rain storm..not sure how it fastens, if not by screws very good 3M tape

I am with John on his concern. I would want to hear from someone (not in desert surroundings) that had good experience in the rain with that type of design. I would want a design that goes out to the high point of the bed sides.

I purchased a truxport (for the frame) for a truck with a larger bed and cut down the frame. I fitted oak stakes for the 4 corner pockets-no additional holes (painted body colr) and made side rails out of 1 x 1 angle iron. I had an upholstory guy sew up a cover.

I tried to upsize these 2 photos without success, anyone can help?

Spoiler

I still have the idea of using the Craftech frame but with a thin aluminum skin painted truck color. I've tallked to the Craftech guy and he was very helpful but could offer no insite on a metal cover.

How do you keep the water out of the box is the question I have. I opted for the *******'s cover https://gaylordslids.com/product/195...5-truck-cover/

well, the cap sits in a rail on each side and another at the front that funnels the water out through a drain... so they say... don't claim to be completely waterproof but pretty much water proof... I saw one at the Grand Nats last year and it looked nice but with the fabric/vinyl material. I'd want to replace that with alum skin. Still using the rails and such so if isn't waterproof with the vinyl it won't be with alum either I guess... Iove to get some first hand user info from someone with personal experience. I like the ******* too but way too much $$$ for me

you answered your question "I've spent all the big bucks, the medium bucks, the small bucks, the proceeds from selling stuff for bucks. but on the bright side... it's all paid for. I still haven't given up. I've got a friend that welds aluminum and a nephew of a neighbor that is in the sign business and can get me a decent price on 5'x8' sheet of alum... so who knows... I don't know what 'alloy' to buy > when I look online there are too many choices

What's nice about the ******** cover is it's finished on the underside too with carpet and if you want they will paint it to match as well. All you do is install it..

Cover should be cheaper than that for you being in the US. Up here with our bucks it works out to twice what you pay by the time it lands at our door..

The reason I like the Craftec is how it sits in the box and is flush with the top of the tailgate. I hear you guys on the rain issue. If water gets into the box there are so many spots for it to run out so I am not too worried about it pooling. I just don't want to drill holes in my truck bed.

well John, I checked on their website and 1700-2000 depending on accessories/options and that covers 53-73 trucks so ymmv. I figured 1700 plus at least 300 to paint, (or more)
