I have has two FE engines (360 & 390) and they both developed the same problem later in life.
The problem is a chronic ticking noise in the engine, I know there's lots of different causes for ticking but I'll try to explain. When the vechicle is started everything is fine; it starts up, runs fine, no noise. After about 10 minutes of operation the ticking starts. If your going down the road it may stop for awhile or it may keep it up until you reach your destination. If you wait awhile and start it up again it's fine, no noise no nothing, but after 10 minutes of operation it start ticking again.
I suspect I'm reaching the life-expectancy of my engine and should be thinking about a rebuild or a replacement. But for once, I would at least like to know what's the cause; lifter, valve, etc.
If anyone has some information on they typical gremlins or weak link of the FE engines are I would greatly appreciate it.
My 300 did the intermittant valvetrain tick for over 50,000 miles until I rebuilt it. I have also seen fuel pumps do this if there is enough wear for the eccentric to slap the arm.
