1998 Ford E 350 with 7.3 turbo... fuel filter is the older style.
Recently broke down and had to replace the fuel pump on the frame next to the tank to get going again. I tried to replace the fuel filter and run seafoam through the fuel at the same time. That started a series of leaks that led to replacing several hoses and clamps, it seemed like new leaks were appearing after the previous ones were fixed.
Now it is leaking fuel again. The primary place the fuel appears is the flywheel housing. It may be something on top of that, as the flywheel seals have oil and transmission fluid, and this is definitely fuel. There is also a squeaking sound which suggests to me a rotor bearing on the main belt may be failing.
Any comments on what this job entails? Or what other diagnostics I ought to do? Could the fuel injector pump be repaired for less than the cost of a new one?
Not sure this is the best forum for your 98. But the flywheel cover having fuel around it means something in the valley is leaking usually. Theres a weep hole at the rear of the valley that literally drains into the clutch/bellhousing area.
Leaks are a pain, but once you fixe one you'll find the next weak spot to fix until its leak free...or out of fuel
When you say fuel iniector pump, are you referring to the hpop at the front of the valley up top? Those are pricey no matter what you do.
Would love to help with this one since I’ve redone my entire fuel system as well as the HPOP. If you can post a picture of the pump you’re talking about we can get you squared away. I’m assuming you either mean the HPOP or the fuel pump on the frame. But pictures would help greatly and we can help you stop that leak.
