Howdy

Hello everyone,
53 Ford Nut here! I have a question. Have a 53 Ford f100 with 215 engine. Pulled what I thought was all the bolts out of engine/transmission, but still not able to separate engine from tranny. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I try to stay with 48-52s. What I type may prove why.
First, welcome to FTE! It is a great group of guys and gals who like to help one another. Reading thru the posts will show that.

In 53 Ford used a new bellhousing that incorporates the rear motor mounts, at least on the V8s. I'm not as sure on the 215 six. I don't think you can separate the engine from the bellhousing without taking the motor mount bolts out where they rest on the perches.
If you're trying to separate the transmission from the bellhousing there are several things that can hold that up. The pilot bearing may be frozen. The splined input shaft may be rusted to the clutch plate, etc etc.
I guess it depends what you're trying to separate. We probably need more info, but this will get you started.

Welcome to FTE

I may be of no help on the straight six as all my trucks have V8s.I did buy a truck with a 6 years ago with a 4 speed. It came apart just like the V8s. You didn’t mention if you’ve pulled the power train or is it still in the vehicle? 4 bolts on the bell housing and the tranny should come loose. If it’s sat for a while a considerable amount of shaking may be involved.

My 54 has the 223 instead of the 215, but the bell housing should be the same

Great picture Indybeer. Seeing that, is the transmission bolted to the bellhousing from inside the bell? Or are there flanges that allow the trans to bolt to the bell from outside?

If they bolt from the inside, you will have to take the bellhousing off. Support the rear of the engine before you break it down.
