I've been debating this for awhile, for starters how many of you have key ***** like:
I like the look, I like not having a key chain to scuff the dash, but it just looks like it would break easy or be difficult to turn...maybe I am over thinking it.
I also thought about doing this, and then installing a momentary switch that comes off of the "on" position. then just push the button to relay to the start solenoid. Any reason that won't work?
I have a key and push button in my 41 Cadillac, modern wiring but same idea as factory. Key on then push the button to start. I am using a relay from the button, not direct wired to the solenoid.
If you really want to get over the top use two starter relays in series. The first one is easy to see and activates from the key start position. The second solenoid you tuck into the frame and activate from a hidden push button. When someone tries to hot wire and steal your truck the first solenoid just clicks like a dead battery. I did this once years ago and haven't bothered on any other vehicles since. No one ever tried to steal my truck.
The guy I bought my 53 Buick from put the starter button in the rear of the cigarette lighter housing. When he parked the car he'd take the lighter with him figuring no one would stick their finger in there to try it.
