Sorry for the delayed response. I built the original kit in 1989 hoping my teenage boys would get interested. They didn't. Now 30 years later my younger son is interested so we've started re-doing it. Bottomline here is that he now has all the literature on the original build. Just got this info from him:
Cam is a Schneider - Intake lift = 0.470", duration is 270; Exhaust lift is 0.495, duration is 290.
Pistons are Speed Pro L2379F30; flat top with 2 valve reliefs.

That's a really mild cam. Not familiar with the pistons, do they have cleveland reliefs ? If they don't, then it wouldn't be wise to go with anything larger in cam specs.
If you Google L2379F30 those pistons pop right up. I don't remember any detail about type of relief. I do remember I chose them because I would have sufficient clearance with the cam.
