Overhead console and display computer

Hi everyone, I am looking for some help with my 01 limited 6.8L 2wd beast. The overhead display computer has gone out. The green numbers and letters no longer show on the unit. This is the one that would show, MPG, DTE, compass and the like. The other items in the console assembly are working, the rear ac control, dome and map lights, etc.. What I am trying to get help with is what all years of Excursion will work with my set up? Ive sort of read that only the 01 and 02 have the same wiring and the 03-05 look the same but are different in the wiring.? same with the expedition. the outer shell and some of the buttons will all swap over but something about the "display computer" and the way it was wired for 01 and 02..?? the part numbers I have come across for my year are YC35-10D898-A and maybe YC3Z-10D898-AA. Does anyone have direct experience or knowledge on this? TIA

The typical problem is solder connections of the resistors. Ford didn't do a great job and put out a lot with cold solder joints. It's very common. There's a vendor on eBay who does this repair very reasonable and fast. Just send yours and the turnaround is only a few days. If you search around the forum you will se other threads discussing this.

Here's one of a few vendors who do this repair; https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Excurs...EAAOSw90lZlumJ

Many of us on this forum have had that problem!! And many have repaired the problem themselves. If you have any soldering experience, you should be able to accomplish this. Not very technical, but somewhat tiny components make it "fun"!!! I've done ours twice, once for the loss of screen, second for loss of button operation. Still going now after aboot 4 yrs since last repair. There may be (I didn't check!!) posts about this in the tech section at top of main page. If not confident of repairing yourself, or if messed up(!!), take advantage of the repair services previously mentioned.

Thanks so much for all the replies and information. I will definitely look into possibly soldering myself or the company that can rework these for not too much of a cost.

That all being said does anyone really know if the wiring is different between the years for this overhead display? Thanks

Hey everyone. I came across this info as I try to work out the possible differences and issues on my display. Not sure it’s 100% accurate but I thought worth posting.?
“overhead console computer indicator from a 2000 - 2001 Ford Excursion. This would be a direct replacement for 2000 and 2001 asit shows the temperature on it. If installedin a 2002 - 2005 Excursion it will read -40 as the temperature would then be accurate on your dash HVAC controller.“

Merry Christmas all. Just a few more bits of information I have gathered on the overhead display unit. Hopefully this is accurate and can help someone.?
Talked to two different Ford dealer parts guys on the item and both say that the 02-05 has a different part number in the Ford system and then the 00-01 are the same.
The difference seems to be something with the 02 and up having a button or something on the main AC control that says "EXT" ..
this is for the ac to read outside temp on the main display. the 00 and 01 do not have this button or read out. If you connect an 00 or 01 display unit
it will read -40 on the overhead display unit but correct outside temp on the main AC. Hope this helps. Thanks

Interesting. I had bought an entire overhead console years back as a backup if mine ever crapped out. I think it was out of an '01 model.
