When looking up battery on parts store web site there is a note "Vehicle Computer System Must Be Reset And Battery Registered Using Scan Tool" the owners manual states to leave the vehicle in a rest state for 8 hours.
The shop quoted 1/2 to 3/4 hours to reset the BMS $50 minimum
I found this procedure and it did flash the battery icon at the end.
Procedure must be carried out within 10 seconds:
1. Switch ignition on (engine off)
2. Pull and release high beam 5 times
3. Press and release brake pedal 3 times
4. If successful the battery light will flash 3 times within the next 15 seconds
5. BMS reset completed"
I asked the shop about the 8 hours of rest time and they didn't know anything about it, the battery I replaced it with had about 100 more CCA than the original.
Wow....ridiculous!...... maybe ford should just concentrate on making dependable transportation instead of xbox technology...... I just want to drive it...not date it or get emotionally involved with it!......

Anyone have experience with the methods above?
thanks
All you have to do is remove the old battery, replace it with your new one, and thats it.
Once you settle in for the night and while you’re sleeping, everything that needs to be done by your truck will take care of itself.
I replaced the battery in my 2016 F150 a couple of months ago and.
The BMS reset has been around since 2011, ten model years later its standard practice. Anytime a. Battery is removed a BMS reset should be completed or you will get BMS system saver messages. The BMS reset takes all of thirty seconds with IDS or with forscan.
I just replaced my battery on a 17 at a local auto parts store. They hooked up to the OBD port with a unit before changing the battery.
The three parts stores I called all said they didn't have the tool

The two vehicles we have now are both 2016's vehicles prior 2006 and 2007 first time I heard of it. I figured it wasn't a big deal to do if you had a tool, the shop I checked with said a minimum of 30 minutes labor reason I didn't make an appointment.
Hmmmm, I wonder if this doesn’t apply to 5.0 equipped F150’s because I never received said BMS message after I replaced the battery in my 2016 Lariat.
It applies to all trucks since 2011 (the exception to that rule is 6.2 trucks). There won't be a BMS message that pops up, you will get system power saver messages that are shorter in duration. The in use days being tracked by the BMS is what counts during the reset as that is what is looked at for charge parameter. Or you skip all of it and turn BMS off with forscan.

Where would I get these System Power Saver messages?
Are you saying that said messages can only be viewed by by a Ford dealer or a shop that has Ford specific software?
I misunderstood you earlier because I was thinking that I would get a message on the screen behind the steering wheel.
That's pretty cool. So, that way we don't need to reset radio stations and such?
I swapped my battery and all I lost was clock and date, radio stations still in tack. I did the sequence 1) key on, 2)flash high beams 5x then 3)brake pedal 3x battery light flash 4x then left the key off doors locked for 8+ hours.
