A few years ago, I replaced my front discs on my 2000 E450 RV with new ones. Although there wasn't a new bearing cone in the new disc (which is one piece with the holder) there was a conical machining in the shape of a bearing cone. I asked about it, and the parts people said just put it in. Everything was fine for a few thousand miles, but I'm now starting to hear crunching noises from the front when turning - a sign of the bearings going bad. What is going on, and should I have a regular bearing cone in this disc?
Your rotor should have an inner bearing and an outer bearing. If you drove several thousand miles without a bearing I would be super impressed. Also your spindle is gonna be trashed most likely. Do post pics..
It was running both bearings, There was, on the disc carrier, a cone (space) for the bearing. But it wasn't machined like a bearing cone would be, and it's my understanding anyway that the bearing and cone should be installed as a pair. How would I have gotten a bearing cone into the disc carrier?

Do you mean the race? The race is pressed in. You can remove it with a hammer or punch.
I might be totally confused too. Post some pics of what you got going on.
Correct. The race and bearing are usually a matched set. But when I bought the disc/carrier from my local Ford dealer, it didn't have a recess for the bearing race, but rather a cone built into the carrier. So what I'm asking, if anyone out there has gotten a new disc/carrier and how did they get a bearing race installed.
