High ICP

Cold engine at idle 3500ish check engine light on. As it warms up the psi drops to where it should be at. Idle 600ish and truck runs fine and check engine light goes off.
Any ideas?
I just changed oil and put a new ford ICP sensor in as the old ICP had oil in the connector. New ICP pigtail too.
Ipr duty cycle is 4.6 at idle when the ICP is 3500
I don't think it's the ICP sensor because why does it read normal when engine is cold? But what else can it be?

What are you using to read the ICP and IPR duty cycle?

Did you have these readings before you changed the ICP?
.
IPR duty cycle of 4.6% is not normal at idle. Should be 8-12% on a warmed up idling 7.3.

What DTC is showing up if you read your codes? That check engine light should generate a code. Probably P1211 or something like it, but maybe some others that will give us clues.

Scan Gauge on steering column

No

1209 and 1211

When engine is hot ipr is 9.7-14.8 at idle
when engine is hot you can go wot and not throw a code

Alright. Has the IPR ever been changed? With a new Ford ICP, I think I'd either rebuild the IPR or replace that part next.

IPR tin nut on tight?

Hmmm interesting.. This is the complete opposite of most IPR issues where it won't build pressure when hot. My guess is there is contamination in the IPR causing enough blockage when the oil is cold to cause higher than commanded ICP. What weight oil are you running? What are the ambient temperatures where you are?

I just started the truck cold. It will run 30-45 seconds and everything is completely normal. IPR and ICP right where they should be.
Then the ipr will slowly start dropping down to 4.6 when it hits 4.6 the ICP goes high and check engine light comes on.

Oh! Stranger and stranger. Let me noodle on this for awhile. You may be on the right track with ohming the magnet at different temps.

In the PC/ED section of the Ford Service Manual, pinpoint test step KE2 states the following.

Do us a favor and have a good look at the IPR and ICP wiring with a bright light. Get all the way back to the main harness, or as far as you can. As I read through the different pinpoint tests I keep getting the feeling that you may have a wiring/electrical issue. I know you said you replaced the ICP pigtail and my thought is just that, a thought.

Although, you can check one more thing off the list and it costs you nothing other than being in the cold for a few minutes. If this drags on and you cannot find a solution, you may need to take some measurements with a multimeter in order to gather ohms and continuity readings.

Again, I am not saying you have a wiring/electrical problem, but reading through the pinpoint tests in the Ford Service Manual for the IPR and ICP, they are somewhat pointing toward that.

Yes

I took the ipr apart and cleaned it. Put it back in the truck and now it won't start. Duty cycle is 70% and it won't build more than 400psi

I will look at wiring as suggested above

Can you get get to a stock tune?...I mean after you chase the new IPR issue down.

I once had a spare IPR (used)...I went through it, installed it....no start. Put the old one back in...started. I threw the one I worked on in the trash.

Sounds like the IPR is not working now. Did you get this pin oriented correctly?
