Im considering putting bedliner on my cab floor for sealing it up with a rubber mat over that to take the abuse. Has anyone done this? What are the pros & cons? Anyone have knowledge as to why this would be a bad idea?
My cab floor sprayed, I wanted the under side spray, and I`m not happy with the way it looks. It was painted over with and for some reason it is very dull. Not a big deal as it will carpet over it. I haven`t driven enough to tell if it will be any quieter.

Undercoatings tend to be flat (no shine) & rubberized? Bed liners are typically flat urithane as well? Are you saying you wanted a shiny finish?
Not shinny but mine is super dull, much like base without the clear top coat. A bit of a downer but not a big deal. This is on my resto mod 53 M100, the stock one has a nice shinny red cab floor that looks so much nicer when I lift up the stock rubber floor mat. I`m just being overly picky, mostly from the big surprise that the bodyman/painter use bed liner then spray over it with what looks to be a coat of flat/base paint over it without any clear coat. Seems to be durable enough that I`m not worried about that.
That is exactly what i did. Originally the truck was gonna be for my teenager to drive to high school. No sense putting carpet in with his football buddies in and out daily... so that was the idea to provide nice color, texture and durability. Cannot stress this enough: BE SURE TO CLEAN EVERYTHING OFF before spraying or you will get spots that don’t stick a year or two down the road. Now he is graduating this year and going off to college next year, I will be redoing the interior ...with carpet, stereo, comforts we older guys want for long road trips. LOL
not exactly high gloss but not flat either... has some depth (texture) and i’d Call it semi-gloss or satin
It wasn't the Rhino Lining brand, it was the other Raptor I think it was called
I was able to get it tinted to match the red on the truck as we also did the bed
I used a brush on black bedliner on my dump truck. Mainly because I was too cheap to buy a mat. It did hide the two previous colors and my overspray third color as well as gives me a floor I can hose out. If it was a road truck I think I would buy the sound deadening material and a floor mat. I don't know what advantage it would be to have bedliner under the mat.
I`m not sure how well the cab floor was cleaned before it was sprayed since I didn`t get to see it before the bed liner was applied, hopefully it was well enough. Your cab and bed floor does have more shine, I like that and I really like your truck`s color a lot. Mine is ok but it is orangey/tomato red.
How well did the brush on black bed liner stand up John? I don`t think there is any sound deadening advantage with a thin coat of bed liner on the cab, I`ll find out next summer.

Time will tell but so far it is OK. I have not driven it much since putting it back together. Got the truck going and broke my loader frame. Fixed it and now tied up helping a relative with a remodel. Bedliner is fine for what I'm doing.
Im glad Im not the only one thinking bedliner...
The only downside I can think of is its rough and may not be as easy to wipe down when it gets dirty. Stuff getting down in the valleys like sandpaper loads up?
I use a damp (not wet) micro-fiber rag and it picks up the majority of the dust and stuff.... still looking semi shiny when i clean (when mind you) it.
Thanks for the input guys. I just wonder if regular urethane (like my exterior paint) would hold up similar to the urethane bedliner but be smooth and purty...
Regular urethane without a mat or carpet would last about as well as a regular painted pickup truck bed with heavy use... if you are going to carpet, probably be fine like Fomoki1 indicated. I used bed liner because my son playing football and his buddies were gonna be quite rough on the interior... no carpet or mats were in the original picture. Now that he’s getting ready to go off to college in the fall, I will finish the truck and carpet the floor and get the interior covered as well to my liking.
Bottom line, either way will work so long as you CLEAN all the grime, rust and other crap that would otherwise ruin a good paint job.
